Free backlink checker and gap finder, explained in plain English

Our backlink checker shows who links to your site and which links help. The gap finder lists sites linking to your competitors but not to you yet.

Links from other websites are one of the signals Google uses to judge a page. Most small businesses never see which sites link to them, or to the business above them.

Without that view, link building turns into guesswork. You email random blogs, pay for directories you have never checked, and hope something sticks.

Worse, you cannot tell a useful link from a risky one. A link from a spammy site can sit in your profile for years without you knowing it is there.

Our backlink tools show both sides. First what you already have, then what your competitors have that you do not.

Enter any domain and the report covers five things. Each one comes with a short note on what it means, so you do not need SEO knowledge to read it.

Domain rank

An overall score for how strong a site's link profile looks. It is most useful for comparing your site with a competitor side by side.

Backlinks

The total number of links pointing at a site from other websites. A big number alone means little until you see where the links come from.

Referring domains

How many separate websites link to the site. Ten links from one website count as one referring domain, so this shows how wide your support really is.

Spam score, simply put

Our estimate of how much a linking site looks like low quality sites. It is not a Google measure. Use it to decide which links to look at more closely, not as a verdict.

Anchor text, simply put

The clickable words in a link. They tell readers and Google what your page is about. A natural mix uses your business name, your web address and plain words, not the same search phrase every time.

Frequently Asked Questions

Is the backlink checker really free?
Yes. You can run a few checks a day with no login at all. A free account gives you more runs each day, and paid plans give you far more.
Why does the gap finder need a free account?
The backlink gap finder and keyword gap analysis are part of the free account. Creating one costs nothing and also raises your daily limits on the other free tools.
Does a high spam score mean Google will penalise me?
No. Spam score is our estimate of how much a linking site looks like low quality sites. Use it to decide which links to look at more closely.
What anchor text mix should I aim for?
There is no fixed percentage. A natural profile mixes your business name, your web address and plain words. Be wary if most links use the exact same search phrase.
Will getting these links move me up in Google?
We cannot promise rankings. Links are one signal among many. The gap finder shows you sensible sites to contact, and the rest depends on your pages and your outreach.
What happens when I start the free trial?
You add a card and get guided onboarding and documentation. Your card is not charged for the plan until the trial ends. Before the first charge we show the date and the amount, and you can cancel from the billing portal before then.
Can I cancel after the trial?
Yes, any time. The plan stops at the end of the paid period, and your articles and voice profiles stay saved.
